CoLoop’s transcription service currently only works on up to 10 speakers (including the moderator) per call. If you have more than 10 it may make sense to merge the speakers together

If you’ve uploaded a file and CoLoop isn’t showing the right number of speakers don’t worry! There are a couple of things you can do to correct this…

Give CoLoop an expected number of speakers for the call

This is generally good practice if you are transcribing an IDI or triad and know exactly how many people were in the interview.

You can set the expected number of speakers when uploading the audio. It’s worth noting this is an expected number so the may sometimes still choose to assign fewer or more speakers.

Number of speakers must be the total number of speakers. This includes narrators, tech support etc.

Merge together speakers

If the recording your dealing with is a focus group and you are happy differentiating only between whether something was said by either a Moderator or a Researcher it may be simplest to merge the speaker segments together.

In this case if you’ve already started to label participants, delete the file, reupload it and follow the instructions here to merge them together.

Add new speakers and correct segments

Before doing this it’s worth thinking about whether you need a speaker level of granularity. CoLoop will work perfectly fine on transcripts containing simply a “Moderator” and generic “Focus Group Participant(s)” and this can be time consuming.

Once you’ve already labelled a set of speaker segments you can go back and correct individual instances where these might not be correct.

When doing this you can add in additional speakers like this…
