Setup

CoLoop supports the analysis of qualitative data from Excel files and other online community data platforms. Check out one of the articles below for instructions on how to download a CoLoop optimised export format from one of these platforms:

Make sure not to edit the files before uploading them as they may not be processed properly. Reach out to support@coloop.ai if you experience any issues.

Once you’ve downloaded your file(s):

  1. Create a project
  2. Upload your project brief / discussion guide. As a reminder this should:
    1. Contain an overview of your research project
    2. Include the key objectives
    3. Be in DOCX format

Dealing with different languages

Some providers like Incling export with translations already. Support for full translation expected end of July 2024
  • We do not support translation for community data yet.
  • All the analysis will be in English but the quotes will still be in the original language.
  • We do support transcription of online bulletin board data audio & video files in the 102 languages (see below).

After you’ve uploaded your files, press “detect language” to automatically detect and transcribe audio and video from your bulletin board projects.

Then choose the language or click “Multi-language” to automatically detect and transcribe audio and video from your bulletin board projects.

Limitations on number of participants

  • Basic analysis grids are limited to handling up to 150 participants.
  • Larger datasets require alternative methods like custom grids or AI chat that sample from your data (read more)
  • Excel file uploads are capped at files with up to 500 rows. Larger datasets currently need to be broken up into smaller files.

Analysing Online Qualitative Data

CoLoop has several specific features for analysing online qual data from Communities and Online Bulletin Boards. They are different to typical interview based projects as they are typically:

  • More Structured: sections of the research are broken up into specific tasks and activities
  • More Segmented: contain a lot more segments and sub groups within the participants
  • More Participants: they are typically larger than interview or focus group based projects
  • More Media Types: they often contain multiple different media types e.g. Audio, video, text based etc.

Due to these differences we recommend analysing them in a slightly different way to more traditional interview based research.

Below are some recommendations for how to approach analysis of this type of research material.

Basic Analysis Grids

  • Basic analysis grids now support the scoping of specific columns to tasks, segments, questions, activities or files.
  • When entering a prompt in the analysis grid you can choose from a list of these using the dropdown (see below)

Custom Analysis Grids

Custom analysis grids can be very helpful for analysing online qual data for the following reasons:

  • They allow you to compare between different segments
  • They allow you to generate thematic analyses for projects with more than 50 participants
  • Add additional rows to the grid and choose sets of segments to apply them to (read more)

Filtered AI Chats

  • AI Chats can also be filtered down to specific tasks, activities or questions
  • This is useful if you want to scope your analysis with a particular subset of your research material
  • It’s a great way to uncover additional detail or find specific supporting quotes.
